Odds are, the more familiar you become with SQL and the deeper you dig into your data, the more you will want to experiment. (If you haven’t yet discovered the benefits of SQL, check out A Business User’s Guide to SQL.)
Of course, investing good money in tools you may not need isn’t ideal, no matter how extensive your budget is. The following query tools for SQL are available at no cost for risk-free exploration whenever inspiration strikes.
This open-source desktop tool is a noteworthy option for sheer versatility and a low-memory footprint. From browsing and editing databases to creating and executing SQL scripts, DBeaver is a good choice to support JDBC-compliant databases such as SQL Server, Firebird, MySQL, Oracle, IBM DB2, SQLite, and Sybase.
Hue is an open-source web interface for analyzing data stored in Apache Hadoop. There are query builders for Hive, Spark, and Pig. The project is maintained by Cloudera and can be installed easily on a number of Hadoop distributions.
3. FlySpeed SQL Query
Whether you prefer to work with grid-style formatting or you wish to create a custom form view, FlySpeed SQL Query simplifies the process. This query tool is compatible with most popular databases, including SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
4. SQuirrel SQL
SQuirrel SQL is another desktop app that works well with JDBC-compliant databases such as Firebird, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Access, Server, MySQL, PostreSQL, and Oracle.
HeidiSQL has all of the standard features of a good query tool, with extra options for managing multiple servers in a single window, moving data between databases, and editing in bulk.
Query tools aren’t the only free software available for SQL. Other data administration tools, such as Adminer, can help process your data quickly and efficiently.
